Take a train ride on a real steam train with Churnet Valley Steam Railway near Leek. They only run at certain times of the year s make sure to check out their timetable first before heading off. They also have Thomas the Tank engine a few times of the year. Click here for more details.

Free places to take toddlers when it's sunny:

Bucknall Park, Also known as Finney Gardens just off Werrington Road, Bucknall-This is a park with a playground near the car park and a City farm at the other end, with chickens, birds, sheep, pigs, ducks & ferrets. There is also a little train that you can take a ride on for a small fee. There are toilets but no baby changing facilities.

Clough Hall Park, Clough Hall Park Road, Kidsgrove-Not sure about baby changing facilities so if you have been, please let us know what you think. Facilities available include children's play ground, bowling green and tennis courts.

Hanley Central Forest Park, has a brand new play area to suit all ages and comes highly recommended. There is a separate play area for toddlers and picnic tables around the lake.

Westport Lake, a lovely place to take kids of all ages for a walk around the lake or to use the play ground facilities. The lake, park and car park has had a recent make over, there is still some ongoing work to the car park but that shouldn't spoil your visit

Brampton Park is a lovely park in Newcastle, with lovely gardens an ideal place for a picnic. They also have a good playground. It is also right next to the Museum, which can have some interesting exhibitions and items for sale.
