THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER - 27th April 2025
Brothers and sisters in Christ, together we gather on this Second Sunday of Easter, also known as Divine Mercy Sunday, to continue our rejoicing in the glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the readings we are given for this day, taken from the Acts of the Apostles and the Gospel according to John, we are reminded of the profound mercy and love that God has for each and every one of us.
In the first reading, we hear how the early Christian community, strengthened by the Holy Spirit, boldly proclaimed the risen Christ, witnessing to His resurrection and the hope that it brings. Our Gospel reading recounts the encounter of the doubting disciple Thomas, who, upon seeing the risen Lord, exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” This moment underscores the reality of Christ’s resurrection and His divine nature, reaffirming our faith and trust in His promises.
As Catholic Christians, we are called to imitate the apostles’ courage and to embrace the mercy offered to us through the resurrection. This weekend’s celebration reminds us that Christ’s victory over death is the foundation of our hope and the very source of our joy. So I invite you all to open your hearts anew to His mercy, and, like the apostles, be witnesses of His love in the world.
May the peace of the risen Lord dwell within us today and always.
Father Victor
